Last weekend I participated in the GMTK jam 2022 on a team with a programmer. We worked in Unity to create Narrow Gauge, a short dice-based tower defense game where you protect your water supplies from on oncoming trains. you can play it here: https://smilewood.itch.io/narrow-gague
I am very happy with my performance on this project. The tower and train models I thoroughly enjoy, and I picked up some new skills through my creation of button sprites, sound effects, and 2D art for menu screens. I also explored unity's particle systems for the first time in this project which was an important development skill to acquire.
The design of the game was slightly too ambitious for a two-man team. We had several concepts and polish features such as upgrade dice and tower range indicators that we were unable to implement but that surely would have improved the game a great deal. Fortunately, we kept the scope small enough to finish a minimum viable product before the time was up.
This jam was a lot of fun and I learned so much from working on a small team and focusing on things outside of my usual 3D modeling and technical art.
